We’re sure glad Anthony Hopkins took this role instead of phoning in more demystifying entries in the Hannibal Lecter canon. The master thespian plays a supergenius structural engineer who kills his philandering wife, then leads a hotshot prosecutor (played by white-hot Ryan Gosling) on a cat-and-mouse nightmare through trial. It’s familiar material executed with flair.
